How to create an effective email marketing follow-up sequence

Once you’ve gotten the signup, your struggle is only partially won. The fact that they’ve now given you permission to email them begs the question, what do I do now ?! You develop an email follow-up series, that’s what! And of course, there is something of an art to this.

What you don’t want to do is set one up with the intent of sending an email every couple of days filled with offers and sales pitches. Preferably do your best to give value and excitement via your emails, and not just pitch fests.

Steps for Email Marketing

Choose your goals – Knowing the exact result you hope to have is key to your success in email. Irrespective of whether you’re looking to generate sales, create long term relationships, create a buzz about an event or your company, or other aims, knowing this going in gives you a huge leg up when crafting your autoresponder series.

Decide on a strategy – Every business will have a slightly different plan here, and some of the elements that enter into this are trust, authority, and being a bit more likeable than the average emailer! We all crave entertainment!

Determine your email sequence – Map this out on a spreadsheet, noting each email in the sequence, and its purpose. Writing the actual emails – Once you’ve determined purpose and number of emails in the sequence, it’s time to write them. If you are crafting them yourself, get and take a moment into the psychology of selling with email, and you’ll be rewarded!

Track and test again! – Most email service providers have the ability to give you excellent tracking stats. Start using these and tweak your emails accordingly for better results!
