Having said that, Google doesn’t make it easy on us, coming up with a search algorithm consisting of more than 200 factors for ranking your pages. Getting your head around all of these could be a full-time job, and there’s no assurance they won’t change it the next day!

  1. Keyword in title tag – Still an important factor, this tells Google what your page is about.
  2. Content length – It’s been demonstrated that content in the 1000-1500 word range ranks better.

  4. Keyword in URL – This can help rank your page better, particularly with longer tail phrases.
  5. Videos and visual content – Google loves visual content: they OWN YouTube, so make visual content a priority.
  6. Outgoing links to authority sites – Outbound links to leaders in your market bode well for you.
  7. Domain Trust – Having Trustrank on your domain helps.
  8. Terms of service and privacy policy – This is a must-do for any serious business, and Google will penalize sites that don’t.
  9. Contextual links – Links in the body of your content, especially to inner pages on your site help.
  10. Natural link profiles – Spammy links are a sure sign to Google that you’re attempting to game the system.
  11. Social engagement – Having people engage with your content and share it over social media is a sure sign to Google that you have a popular page worth ranking.
  12. Relevant content – Showcasing content relevant to your site and keywords is a must.
  13. Excessive advertisements – If your page is full of ads, you won’t rank well.
  14. Domain age – Google gives aged domains better ranking than newer ones.
